Gamification in language learning
Game-like language course
Linguti language courses
strongly rely on gamification
. Lessons bring game-like feeling and keep users entertained while learning a new language. They lose a heart when their answer is incorrect and they need to repeat the lesson when they are out of all of their hearts. While learning and solving new tasks, and exercises correctly they are awarded with coins and XP points. They can later use gathered coins to buy power-ups which boost up their language learning
experience. XP points are needed in order to level up. Higher levels allow users to buy better power-ups and unlock new perks.
At the end of each language lesson
, learners are rewarded with XP points accordingly to their learning performance. These points are needed to acquire higher levels. While leveling up, learners unlock new perks and different power-ups which make language learning
exciting and keep them entertained.
Apart from the XP points, students are also rewarded with coins. They can use them to buy varied power-ups to improve and transform their language classes
into a fully game-like language course
. The acquired coins can be also used to buy many different skills and new custom courses.
are the core feature of the Linguti online language courses
. They can be bought in the shop for the ingame currency, coins. There are many different power-ups which come in handy while taking different reviews. They can restore lost hearts, save users from starting over the review after losing all their hearts or even make them invincible for some amount of time. The power-ups are the key factor in Linguti language course gamification
There are different categories of the power-ups which can be acquired by users. First one, are the power-ups which can be used within the language reviews. These items are stored in user's collection and you can use them whenever you which by clicking the icon below (during the review):
The second category are the power-ups which improve user's strength and ability forever. The example of this category is the power-up which adds you an extra heart.
The third category are the power-ups related to the day streak. They can manipulate it by pausing it for one whole day or doubling learners final weekly reward.
Day streak is a measure of how consistently learners learn a language with Linguti. The counter starts at zero and increases by one for each day users practiced their online language course
. It resets to zero when a following day is missed unless a streak freeze power-up was bought in advance.
Day streak is awarding users every seventh day for learning a language with a weekly award. The award can be doubled if a double or nothing power-up was bought in advance.
Leaderboards display how many XP or coins were earned by the best top fifty users in a given time period. Leaderboards are part of gamification
and are there to encourage competition and language learning
. Each language has separate table and display only the achivements collected while learning during this particular language course. Users can easily find themselves on the list and compare their own achievements with other learners and their own friends.
There are three different types of leaderboards:
- This week
: Ranking based on XP or coins obtained since the start of the current calendar week
- This month
: Ranking based on XP or coins obtained since the start of the current calendar month
: Ranking based on XP or coins obtained since the user began using Linguti
